Frequently asked questions about Myklebust Farm (FAQ)

Where is Myklebust Farm?

Myklebust Farm is located at Myklebustvegen 4, 6770 Nordfjordeid, in Western Norway. You can find us on Google Maps — there is parking available on site.

What is the Viking burial mound?

The burial mound at Myklebust Farm is one of Norway’s most significant Viking historical sites. It is the final resting place of King Audbjørn, a powerful Viking king who ruled the Firda Kingdom. When he died around 870 AD, his ship — over 30 metres long and the largest Viking ship ever discovered in the world — was burned as part of a spectacular funeral pyre. The mound was excavated in 1874 and the find put Nordfjordeid on the map of world history. If you book the Myklebust Viking Adventure, you’ll have the opportunity to walk on a real burial mound from the Viking Age.

How much does it cost?

We have two options. The Open Farm ticket costs 95/175 NOK per person and gives you a relaxed day on the farm, including a short film about the Viking history of the farm and one free coffee or tea for every adult in the café. Check our calendar to see when we’re open to visitors. Tickets can be purchased on arrival.

The Family Animal Experience costs 350 NOK for two people, with an additional charge of NOK 95 per extra guest. The experience includes a guided walk with alpacas and horse grooming, feeding goats and rabbits, and access to play areas. Children under 2 years enter for free. Tickets must be booked in advance.

Can I bring children?

Absolutely — Myklebust Farm is perfect for families with children of all ages. Kids can meet alpacas, horses, goats, rabbits, cats and more in a safe and calm environment. There are outdoor play areas, and the café serves light refreshments. Children under 2 enter for free.

Do I need to book in advance?

Tickets for Open Farm can be purchased on arrival (please check our calendar for opening hours). All other experiences must be booked in advance.

How long does a visit take?

A typical visit to Myklebust Farm takes 1–3 hours. The animal walk with alpacas, horses, rabbits and goats lasts one hour.

What animals can we meet?

The farm is home to alpacas, horses, goats, rabbits, cats and dogs. During the guided animal walk you get to stroll with the alpacas, greet the horses, cuddle the rabbits and feed the goats. No prior experience needed — the activity is suitable for everyone.

What is the Myklebust Viking Experience?

The Viking Experience is our guided package where you step into the world of King Audbjørn. You walk up onto the real Viking burial mound, enjoy homemade refreshments among the farm animals, watch a film about the history of the farm, and can choose to finish your visit here or continue to the Myklebust Ship replica at Sagastad. We also tailor custom programmes for groups and school classes.

Can I visit outside regular opening hours?

Yes — we welcome group bookings outside our regular hours. Contact us at post@myklebustfarm.no or +47 472 60 034 and we will find a time that works for your group.
